CIVIC EXPERIENCE

Rochester Black Bar Association, President
Rochester NY | Fall 2005 - Present

Advocate on behalf of African American attorneys and, in general, the African-American community in the greater Rochester area. In the tradition of our national affiliate, the National Bar Association (NBA). Actively promote the increase in racial and ethnic diversity at all levels of the legal profession and ensure that African American attorney’s and other students of color as they pursue a legal career. Also worked to increase the retention and advancement of African American and other attorneys of color in private law firms and in corporations with in-house legal departments in Western New York; Worked collaboratively with other bar associations, governmental agencies and community groups to achieve greater understanding of and involvement of African American and other people of color in the American legal system; Working with other organizations to pursue the interest of justice within all communities, but particularly the communities of color within Monroe County and promoted diversity within the judiciary at all levels.

Sisters Together Achieving Results, Advisory Board
Rochester NY | 2004 - 2005

STAR provides young women in grades eleven and twelve with a 12 month program of Interactive Skill Based Workshops and Community Action Work culminating in a formal ball to celebrate their success. Worked with the Executive Board to ensure that young women were provided with the necessary tools for a well-balanced life and encouraged principles of integrity, honesty, fairness, hard work, dedication, love and respect for others; Help to promote Sister Together Achieving Results mission: to help young women be empowered to overcome the various life threatening obstacles they encounter.
